What we do

Cultural Heritage

The Zijin Akyem communities have a rich cultural heritage which dates back centuries; the ways in which events such as funerals are organised, marriages are contracted, divorce cases are sanctioned as official and naming ceremonies are performed have become a part of the social and spiritual life of the communities. It therefore seems important that these traditions are preserved for generations to come. As a result, interventions were made through the provision of regalia and infrastructure to sustain and preserve these traditions. The regalia includes traditional furniture, clothes and umbrellas. Completion of the chief’s palace and durbar ground (conference room) at Afosu, completion of the durbar ground and construction of a three-bedroom chief’s residence at Resettlement are also cultural heritage infrastructural projects.
